From Makers Markets to award winning restaurants, it’s all going on in Stockport!
What an interesting update at last week’s South Manchester Finance and Professional Networking meeting from Michael Lamont of RBS in relation to the Stockport Bid and Totally Stockport.
As is fitting for the fastest growing economy North West at present really are coming in the western present (yes, and that’s us – Stockport!), there is a whole lot going on.
We will try to post more regular updates and share information about local events and other good news as we come across them, but for now here are just a few highlights from issue four of the totally Stockport magazine…
Firstly, it’s fantastic to see that the very popular Makers Market is going to be a monthly event in Stockport throughout 2018, adding to the very popular monthly ‘Foodie Friday’ and other ‘old town’ events which have been drawing the crowds over recent months. The Makers Market displays over 50 unique stalls offering local Artisan food and drink, art and crafts and unique vintage products. Additionally there is live music and street food, cookery demonstrations and children’s activities so it really is a great day out for all the family. Events will be held in the Stockport market area one Saturday every month from now until December. We’ve just missed the April event which was last Saturday the 14th so the next event will be on Saturday 12th of May from 10 AM to 4 PM, and it’s free entry to all. More details in the photographs.

Moving on, did you know that The Allotment has beaten some of the regions culinary best at the prestigious City Life Awards 2018 to be voted Restaurant of the Year 2018! This is an absolutely amazing achievement for a vegan restaurant situated in downtown Stockport. We haven’t tried it out yet but I’m very excited to do so in the near future – well done Matt and team!
There is an amazing variety of events going on locally from antiques and book and record fairs, photo walks and photography courses, and even hat making as well as a multitude of theatre, drama, music and dance at Stockport Plaza and the other local theatres – Saturday 21st of April sees Northern Soul live with the Edwin Starr Bond which sounds like a whole lot of fun. In May there is a “Keep it Country Show” and the “Ken Dodd Happiness Show” both at the Plaza which I am sure will be highly entertaining. The Hat Works is running a millinery course for all you budding Hatters out there who would like to design and make your own headwear for the approaching festival season.
