How much is enough?
It was another full house at Gorvins Solicitors in Stockport again on 28th February 2020 for Stockport SUBS Networking and Learning discussing everything money related.
The Gorvins team really couldn’t look after us better – bacon butties, pastries, fresh fruit and even veggie sausage sandwiches to kick the morning off to a great start!
There was a real buzz in the air already by 8am on a very dreary Friday morning. After half an hour of open networking Sarah finally managed to kick the learning part of the morning off. There were lots of new faces in the room which was fantastic to see alongside clients and contacts who we seem to have known forever, and of course our fabulous new SUBS Partners – Sue Fernandes and Inness Mattinson from Instilled, Stephen McPhee from MinuteMan Press, and David Chapman from Utilities Warehouse.
Before Matt kicked off his presentation we recognised a big birthday in the house… local company and IN Accountancy client Deanprint turned 130 years old this month – now that’s a wonderful achievement!! Sales Director, Jon Sherlock (who doesn’t look a day over 125 ????????) shyly stepped up to accept a bottle of something fizzy and celebratory!
How much is enough was the question posed to us by Matt Jones of SUBS Partner Cullen Wealth this morning at our second Stockport SUBS Networking and Learning Event.
And boy, did he get us thinking!!
Did you know that according to research by Loughborough University and published by the Mail a couple needs a pension pot of £1,000,000 in order to enjoy a comfortable retirement with a couple of foreign holidays, decent wine, and some sort of sporting membership (yep, you can tell the things that matter to me, can’t you ?????)
Matt then went on to explain how we might be able to get there. And he did this in such a way that the whole room was engaged from start to finish. It’s a rare skill to make what could be a challenging and potentially rather dull and technical subject interesting and engaging – Thanks Matt!
Sarah picked back up as link man (woman??) really challenging our thinking on the compound effect of starting now and saving little and often… around 40% of the room initially thought they would prefer £1,000,000 right now rather than 1p doubled every day for a month.
Which would you choose?
Then the lovely Becky Shorrock from SUBS Charity Partner Supportability introduced the charity and told us all how we could walk away there and then with £100 in cash by signing up to their accumulator challenge. The IN Team have signed up, as did a couple of other attendees, including David Bellin from SUBS Business Events.
As a number of people said at the end, you can tell a good networking event by how people mingle after, and if that’s the sign of a good event, well this one was absolutely excellent!
Our next Stockport SUBS Networking & Learning Event will take place on Friday 27th March, again generously hosted by Gorvins Solicitors, from 8-10am and as we (finally) approach spring we will be focusing on business growth.
We hope to see you there, and as always, should you have any questions, or would like an introduction, please don’t hesitate to contact us…
